Halo 2 and Halo 3 Remakes reportedly cancelled

Following on from the recent announcement that Halo is being moved over to Activision and Halo Studios is winding down into a maintenance team, new rumours suggest several previously planned Halo projects have now been shelved, including the Halo 2 remake teased at the end of Halo Campaign Evolved. 

According to Leaks_Infinite, the shake‑up around the Halo IP has resulted in both Halo 2 Remake and Halo 3 Remake being cancelled. This is notable because Halo Studios essentially announced Halo 2 Remake at the end of Halo: Campaign Evolved. Each Halo game includes a secret Legendary‑only cutscene, and in Campaign Evolved, beating the game on Legendary unlocked a fourth‑wall‑breaking moment where a character looks directly at the player and says “see you in the sequel”, confirming that Halo 2 Remake was planned internally.

Leaks_Infinite also claims that Halo Studios’ early work on Halo 7 has been thrown out, with Activision now deciding what stays and what goes from the previous Halo roadmap. This lines up with reporting from The Verge’s Tom Warren, who has heard that Activision will be rebooting the Halo series rather than continuing where Halo Infinite left off.

With Halo moving to a new studio and potentially undergoing a full reboot, plus the fact that AAA games nowadays take 5+ years to make, we likely won't see a new Halo Campaign before the end of this decade.
