Tango Gameworks alumni Ikumi Nakamura announces Yokai-Hunting game ‘Kemuri’

Ikumi Nakamura became one of Tango Gameworks’ standout developers when she headlined the introduction of the studio's then-upcoming Ghostwire Tokyo. Having departed in 2019 prior to the studio’s closure by Microsoft, Nakamura would later announce the formation of her own studio ‘UNSEEN’. Finally, 4 years on from the studio’s reveal, Nakamura has officially unveiled Kemuri – a stylish co-op yokai-hunting action game.

Making the official announcement during Sony’s recent State of Play Showcase (and expanded upon via the PlayStation Blog) Ikumi Nakamura unveiled Kemuri: A “yokai-possession action game set in the chaotic world of Kemuri City, where life and death coexist.”

Featuring a “sprawling vertical city” players take on the role of Yokai hunters, searching for spirits, forming contracts with them and receiving new and unique powers.

While the overall structure of the game remains somewhat shrouded, the gameplay shared shows off what looks like a blend between Tango Gamework’s GhostWire Tokyo and Insomniac Games’ Sunset Overdrive – with its own unique elements sprinkled in there.

We will unfortunately have to wait a bit to learn more, with the game not set to arrive until some time in 2027. That said, when it does launch, Kemuri looks set to be a highly fun and unique time.
