Concept art for Deviation Games’ cancelled project has been revealed

Founded back in 2021 and subsequently closed down just 3 years later, Deviation Games was a brand new studio created by PlayStation and headed by COD Zombies alumni Jason Blundell. Prior to its closure, the team were said to be working on a brand new IP – likely a first-person shooter. Though nothing official was shared at the time, concept art for the ill-fated game has now surfaced.

As discovered by the publication mp1st, one ex-Deviation Games developer published a number of pieces of concept art from their time at the studio. Dated as having been made back in 2020, these pieces clearly show the game in its earliest stages – with little in the way of a unique visual style outside of a couple weapons and concepts of space; indicating that it was likely sci-fi in nature.

For the uninitiated, Deviation Games was created back in June of 2021. Formed primarily of ex Call of Duty developers and headed by Jason Blundell, little was shared on the game. That said, things seemed to be going well, with a second studio being opened in January of 2022.

Unfortunately, later that same year Jason Blundell announced his departure from the studio – with Deviation Games ultimately shutting down in March of 2024.

Luckily, the story doesn’t end here however, with Blundell continuing to partner with PlayStation; announcing another new studio in the form of Dark Outlaw Games just a couple months ago. As with Deviation Games, basically nothing else has been shared at this time.

Hopefully Sony/Blundell are able to get things right the second time round. It will be interesting to see how different this project winds up being to Deviation Games’.
