Mafia III celebrates its 10th anniversary with free current-gen update

Back in August, 2K Games announced and subsequently released Mafia: The Omerta Collection – a repacking of all four Mafia games designed for current-gen platforms. At the time of its release however, only the first game in the OG trilogy received a native current-gen port. Fortunately, it appears as though those left behind are being brought up to snuff, with Mafia III: Definitive Edition having now officially received its free current-gen upgrade.

Celebrating the game’s 10th anniversary, 2K officially announced and released its current-gen upgrade for Mafia III, bringing with it “60 FPS gameplay and technical improvements.”

While exact specifics regarding these improvements were not shared, in being a native current-gen application Mafia III will likely benefit from better texture streaming, faster load times and the like. Curiously, the game is also listed as being PS5 Pro enhanced, and so it’s possible that the upgrade does offer a more comprehensive set of improvements than is listed.

Beyond its visual and performance enhancements, Mafia III’s latest update also brings with it a ton of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements, ranging from NPC behaviour to UI adjustments and more.

Luckily, PC players aren’t being left out either, with the update’s list of fixes and improvements also applying to the Steam version. In addition however, PC users are also getting their own set of minor enhancements, including a new FPS lock option; improved multi-monitor support and bespoke bug fixes related to playing in Windowed Mode. The full set of patch notes can be found HERE.

With this latest update, Mafia II: Definitive Edition now remains the sole entry in the series to not have a native current-gen application. Given that a PS5 / Xbox Series port was recently rated by the ESRB however, it is only a matter of time. The Mafia Trilogy is currently on sale for £9.99 (80% off) with Mafia III in particular being just £5 (also 80% off).
