Stellar Blade on Switch 2 will now make frame-gen optional following fan feedback

Following its initial release on PlayStation 5 and later PC, SHIFTUP’s Stellar Blade was confirmed to be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Ahead of the game’s launch on the 5th of November, the team revealed the port’s technical specifications, confirming that the title would use AMD’s frame-generation in order to hit 60fps. Responding to fan feedback however, the team have now revised this decision somewhat, stating that users will now be able to toggle the option on or off as they please.

Earlier this month, in discussing the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 release of Stellar Blade, ShiftUp CTO and technical director DongKi Lee revealed that the team have implemented AMD’s frame-generation, using FSR 3.1 to boost framerates from 30 to 60fps across both handheld and docked modes.

While the interpolation was implemented thoughtfully – focusing on maintaining even frame-pacing – frame-generation remains a contentious technology, and one which some users would prefer not to use.

With the game’s demo out and available for all to check out, ShiftUp has seemingly received plenty of feedback on the use of FSR 3.1, taking to Twitter to write: “Thank you to everyone who has played the Stellar Blade Complete Edition demo on Nintendo Switch 2 so far. We've been watching your feedback closely and decided to add a Frame Generation toggle at release. We hope this lets you play the way that looks and feels best to you!”

Being a current-gen exclusive, it is perhaps not too surprising to see that Stellar Blade requires some compromises to get the game running smoothly on Switch 2. Still, for those who do not enjoy the feeling of ‘fake frames’, having a native 30fps option is welcome to see.
