Google announces Project Zero

Google has put together a new security team to find and fix the Internet's most destructive bugs before hackers have a chance to exploit them, the company announced in a security blog post.

Google is one of the largest online businesses in the world, which makes it a prime target for Chinese hackers and snooping organizations like the NSA. As a result, Google has begun trying to boost security across the entire internet.

Google's post reads: “You should be able to use the web without fear that a criminal or state-sponsored actor is exploiting software bugs to infect your computer, steal secrets or monitor your communications.”

“Project Zero is our contribution, to start the ball rolling. Our objective is to significantly reduce the number of people harmed by targeted attacks. We’re hiring the best practically-minded security researchers and contributing 100% of their time toward improving security across the Internet. ”

Google isn't placing any bounds on the project and aims to improve the security of any software that has a large number of users. The company will be doing its work transparently and will file every bug found in an external database.
