Earlier this week, Sweden's police force managed to take down The Pirate Bay and it has been offline ever since. As it turns out, TPB co-founder, Peter Sunde, thinks that the site should stay offline because he's “not a fan of what TPB has become”.
Following the raid that took the site and its proxies offline, Sunde took to his blog to explain his feelings on the matter. “The site was ugly, full of bugs, old code and old design. It never changed except for one thing – the ads. More and more ads was filling the site, and somehow when it felt unimaginable to make these ads more distasteful they somehow ended up even worse.”
The post then goes on to say that Sunde originally wanted The Pirate Bay to shut down on its tenth birthday but instead, a party was thrown and sponsored by what he describes to be a sexist company. The co-founder wasn't particularly fond of how the site chose to make money after his departure:
“There was a ticket price to get in, automatically excluding people with no money. The party had a set line-up with artists, scenes and so on, instead of just asking the people coming to bring the content. Everything went against the ideals that I worked for during my time as part of TPB.”

While the site has grown into a bit of a mess, It cant go offline for ever!!!!
At least without an awesome replacement, how that project for a p2p pirate-bay coming along? that would be the greatest things in the entire universe right now.
A bitcoin like principal of peer hosting parts of a virtual website, using error finding algorithms to find the correct site elements from impersonators (Hollywood attempting to disrupt the site with fake servers). Just like bitcoin principle the site would be controlled/owned by the majority of computing power and storage (the massive community)

It may have grown into a mess, being old and had a shitty design, that’s the magic. It’s like trying to remove santa because his clothe are outdated
one word: “Adblock”and the ad problem is solved. The rest of the “problems” don’t matter at all, honestly.
we don’t care about fucking ads, the old design was oldschool… design doesn’t matter, it was still best site to download things…
TPB got too big for it’s own good IMO. loved the site for obvious reasons and hated it…for also obvious reasons.
If a phoenix is to rise from these ashes it should, as sunde implies, be built on community. The community will keep it running. The community will provide the virus-free downloads. The community will support the developers that deserve it. And most of all, a good community will generate a good community.
Or you could get the usual trolls and idiots, that the “internet” community consists of, that will bring the whole idea crumbling down.

You do realise that adds are based on what you search on the internet right? lol
For example if you keep visiting websites that are about games or so, you’ll most likely get game adds.
Of course there are those where you win an Iphone 8 with 8 billion usd and become the president of Africa.
Why do you all hate the design? I loved the simple design of it, better than any other torrent site, and most download sites for that matter.
Ad’s arnet always based on what you search on the internet, only some ad’s, like Google Ads etc. PirateBay has always had those pornographic advertisements present, I don’t see them myself though because I use AdBlock.
