PlayStation VR to release in Autumn

Sony is set to bring Virtual Reality to consoles this year with the launch of PlayStation VR and while Sony has been pretty tight-lipped on things like pricing and a release date, GameStop's CEO, Paul Raines has jumped the gun and said that the PS4 headset will be launching in the Autumn of this year, slightly later than the previously anticipated Summer release.

In an interview with Fox News, Raines was talking about Virtual Reality and GameStop's plans for getting involved, admitting that the retail chain will “launch the Sony product this fall”.

GameStop is also in talks with “the other two players”, meaning Oculus and HTC, who are releasing PC-oriented virtual reality headsets this year, with the Oculus Rift arriving in March and the HTC Vive coming in April.

If what Raines is saying proves true, that would mean that Sony has pushed back the launch of the headset a bit from its previous Summer release window. This is likely to give developers more time to finish up their games for launch, which will help with early software support.

KitGuru Says: Sony has said in the past that while its VR headset is ready, it is holding off on its launch to give developers some time to finish up their games for launch, so news of a short delay isn't too surprising.
