PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds will be in Early Access until Q4 2017

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has seen a lot of success over the last few months, with millions of gamers already on board with the Early Access title. However, as the player base ramps up, so does the pressure to not disappoint. As a result, the six month Early Access time frame for Battlegrounds has been revised. Previously the game was expected to fully release in September but now, a ‘Q4' release window is in its place.

Writing over on the Steam Community earlier today, Player Unknown addressed the player base, saying that while he “hoped to be out of Early Access” six months after launch, he has since realised that “restricting the window to a specific month” could be more of a hinderance to development progress.

Here is the full quote: “Over the past few months I have done a lot of interviews, and in many of them, I said we hoped to be out of Early Access six months after we first launched. I’ve come to realize that restricting the window to a specific month could hinder us from delivering a fully featured game and/or lead to disappointment within the community if the launch deadline is not met.”

As a result, the developer has decided to re-address the launch timeframe, with plans to release in Q4 2017, meaning the full game should still arrive before the end of 2017.

KitGuru Says: It was good of the developers to address this now, rather than keeping quiet on the subject. I am sure those who are enjoying the game already will appreciate the extra months of development time.

KitGuru Games: Corporate nonsense has put Helldivers 2 in jeopardy as game removed from over 170 countries

It tends to take a lot for gamers to 'forgive' a studio after messing up a launch, for instance CD Projekt Red had to spend three additional years developing Cyberpunk 2077 before many were willing to give the game another shot. In the case of Helldivers 2, despite the game having some rough server issues at launch, the game turned out to be so good that many players simply waited things out, without leaving a trail of negative reviews. Now, a case of incredibly poor communication and a poorly thought-out plan from the game's publisher, Sony, has put Helldivers 2 in jeopardy, with the game being removed from over 170 countries.
