Elite Dangerous: Odyssey PC alpha coming this month

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is still on track to release this year and soon, we'll have the chance to try it out for ourselves. This week, Frontier announced an upcoming alpha playtest and detailed the features and content we can expect to see.

The PC alpha test for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey will be kicking off on the 29th of March. To drum up some extra excitement, Frontier has also released a video showcasing an entire new mission from the expansion, which will see Commanders going on foot and engaging in fire fights while raiding a military outpost:

The playable alpha will be our first look at Odyssey's new boots-on-ground gameplay. Unfortunately, getting into the alpha will require a pre-order of the expansion.

Currently, Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is set to release on PC sometime during the Spring. Then in Autumn 2021, the expansion will also come to PS4 and Xbox One. Next-gen enhanced editions of Elite Dangerous have not been announced yet.

KitGuru Games: DLSS 5 misses the point

It would be hard to argue that NVIDIA’s DLSS technologies haven’t been a net positive to the PC space, with the machine-learning based upscaler successfully translating lower resolution inputs into a final image which is perceivably sharper while hogging fewer resources. Though somewhat more contentious, the next evolution of DLSS came in the form of Frame Generation, using ML in order to generate additional frames for high-refresh rate gaming. Both techniques can have their issues, but generally speaking they’ve allowed for more people to experience higher-end titles at increased frame rates. DLSS 5, however, takes a sharp pivot, with a very different end goal in mind than the performance-boosting versions that came before.
