Dead Space remake officially announced for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5

This evening, during EA Play Live, the publisher officially announced Dead Space. Just as previous leaks predicted, the horror franchise is coming back in reimagined form for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.

The original Dead Space and its two sequels were developed by Visceral Games, although the studio was eventually shut down as EA executives began to lose interest in single-player, story-driven games. Since the release of Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in 2019, EA has changed its mind on single-player games again, leading to releases like Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and of course, the revival of Dead Space.

The teaser trailer does not give us much to go off of, although it is exciting to see our old friend Issac back in his classic suit. The official description for the game currently reads:

“The sci-fi survival horror classic Dead Space returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up by Motive Studios to offer a deeper and more immersive experience. Harnessing the power of the Frostbite game engine and next generation consoles, this remake brings jaw-dropping visual fidelity and improvements to gameplay while staying true to the original. Dead Space will be available on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

There is no release date or a release year announced at this time. Given that the game is skipping the Xbox One and PS4, it is safe to assume that it isn’t releasing until late 2022 at the earliest.

KitGuru Says: Dead Space is an all-time favourite horror game of mine. Hopefully this remake of the original game will lead to a new set of sequels, perhaps with a mix of old and new stories to tell.
