Steam for ChromeOS enters beta

Valve has really ramped up its efforts to support alternative operating systems lately. With the Steam Deck, Valve brought Linux-based gaming to the masses and now, Valve is expanding these efforts with Steam support for ChromeOS. 

ChromeOS is the operating system installed on Chromebooks, which often make for decent, cheap and portable laptops. Google announced the Steam for ChromeOS alpha at its Game Developer Summit earlier this year, and now, Steam for ChromeOS has entered beta.

As reported by Phoronix, ChromeOS 108 includes the Steam beta. Now, Chromebooks with Intel Core i3 or AMD Ryzen 3 processors can run the launcher, although devices with 16GB of RAM and a Core i5 or Ryzen 5 processor are still recommended. The beta also adds support for DX12 and Vulkan 1.3 based games, improving game compatibility. Still, specific games you'll be able to run greatly depends on your Chromebook's graphics capabilities.
