In the nearly-a-decade since the initial release of ATLUS’ beloved Persona 5, there have been plenty of leaks and rumours discussing the next mainline entry in this now iconic series. Finally, after releasing a bunch of P5 spin-offs and crossing over with countless other IPs, ATLUS has officially announced that Persona 6 is real and is in development – though no release date was provided.
Making the announcement during Microsoft’s latest Xbox Games Showcase, ATLUS gave us our first official look at Persona 6. While details remain light, the colour scheme for this entry is a bright neon green, contrasted by the dark and dreary visuals of what appeared to be a cemetery.
Additionally, the teaser included some very Resident Evil-esque horror imagery, suggesting that the atmosphere for P6 will be more oppressive when compared to previous entries.
Of course, the Persona series has always toed the line between scary and chill vibes, and so we will have to wait and see what Persona 6’s more social aspects will look like. That said, based on what little we have seen so far, ATLUS is taking the series into a darker direction – perhaps closer to the stylings of its sister series Shin Megami Tensei.
Either way, with Persona 5 first releasing all the way back in 2016, it is exciting to know that Persona 6 is actually real and will come out sooner or later on current-gen Xbox, PlayStation and PC (and will be a day-one Game Pass addition).
