Insider reiterates that Marvel’s Venom is still in development

Amongst Sony's many different first-party PlayStation Studios, Insomniac Games is one of the most transparent – not only due to the sheer rate at which they have released high quality games – but also thanks to an unfortunate data breach which leaked roughly a decade worth of plans. Included in these leaks were details on a Venom-led spin-off. Though yet to be officially announced, insiders have claimed that the project is still in the works.

Marvel’s Venom has been somewhat of a known quantity for quite some time. Of course, the villain was featured in 2023’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, but thanks to the infamous Insomniac Games data breach we learned that a Venom-focused spin-off was also in the works.

While yet to be officially announced by Sony themselves (and further complicated by the unfortunate passing of Venom voice actor Tony Todd), insiders have continued to claim that the project is still in the works.

With Marvel’s Wolverine a little over a week from release, talk surrounding what’s next in store for Insomniac has started to bubble up once again.

Insomniac Spider-Man

Responding to one user who asked for an update on the as-of-yet-unconfirmed Venom project, known industry insider NateTheHate (also known as NateDrake) claimed: “Venom is very much still in development upon last check. As to when it'll be announced, I don't know.”

As mentioned, the unfortunate passing of Tony Todd back in 2024 reportedly did put a bit of a pause on development of this Venom spin-off, but did not lead to its cancellation.

For the uninitiated, 2023’s Spider-Man 2 was apparently initially intended to feature far more of Venom than what was seen in the final product, with Tony Todd himself claiming at the time that 90% of his recorded lines ultimately did not make its way into the game.

Given this, it is safe to assume that much of what was recorded will be repurposed for the Venom project. Regardless, assuming the game is real, hopefully it manages to do justice to Tony Todd.
