Onimusha: Way of the Sword is now launching earlier than expected

In today’s day and age, it is highly common for many anticipated games to ultimately be delayed a couple times prior to their official and eventual launches. On the flip side, it is far less common for a game to end up having its release date brought forward. Such is the case however with Capcom’s Onimusha: Way of the Sword – officially confirming that it is arriving 3 weeks earlier than initially announced.

Taking to Twitter to make the announcement, the official Onumusha team shared the welcome news, writing: “We are delighted to bring Onimusha: Way of the Sword to you earlier on September 4, 2026.”

Initially planned to release on the 25th of September, this means that fans will be able to get their hands on the game up to 3 weeks earlier than expected.

It is worth noting that this change in release date has impacted some logistics, with Nintendo Switch pre-orders all being cancelled – meaning you’ll need to pre-purchase the title once again. In addition, what was previously a pre-order bonus has now been changed to an ‘early adopter’ bonus; eligible for all purchases up until the 25th of September (the game’s original launch date).

No reason was given for this change in release date. That being said, late September will see a number of major releases, including but not limited to Silent Hill: Townfall and Control Resonant.

Early October is even more stacked, with Rayman Legends Retold; Ace Combat 8; Gears of War: E-Day; Star Wars Galactic Racer and others all coming in the first week of the month – and so perhaps they are simply trying to carve out a space for the game to thrive.
