Minecraft is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 in October

While there have been a solid number of Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives released since the sequel system’s launch, a majority of the console’s bread and butter has been in its Switch 2 Editions – bringing over enhanced versions of older Switch 1 games. Set to join the ever-growing list, Mojang have now announced that Minecraft will be getting its own Switch 2 version in late October.

Taking to its blog to make the announcement, the team at Mojang confirmed that Minecraft will be getting a native Switch 2 port in a couple months’ time – officially launching on the 27th of October.

While we have yet to get a full breakdown of the specifics (such as how many chunks can be rendered, target framerates etc…), it was confirmed that the Switch 2 version will include support for Minecraft’s ‘Vibrant Visuals’ – bringing with it “enhanced lighting, shadow effects and more”. Unfortunately, when playing split-screen however you will have to make do with a more basic presentation.

Another bit of uncertainty comes for those who already own the game on the OG Switch, with Mojang promising that “a digital upgrade path will be available for Nintendo Switch players” – suggesting that users may have to pay for the upgrade.

Regardless of whether this Switch 2 Edition will be free to upgrade or not, expect it to shoot straight to the top of the charts when it officially launches in October.
