The past month has been rough for Xbox. Over the past few weeks we've seen console prices go up, studios closed, high-profile projects cancelled and now this week, Game Pass has been restructured, with a 50% price hike for Game Pass Ultimate, which is now the only tier to include day-one games. According to sources, the writing has been on the wall for Game Pass since Call of Duty joined the Game Pass library, as the move apparently cost Microsoft hundreds of millions in lost sales.

A new big budget Lord of the Rings game is reportedly in development

Lord Rings

While the Lord of the Rings universe is rich with stories; lore; characters and more (all of which are perfect to be adapted into video game form), the franchise has struggled to release a quality game in quite some time – with its most recent high being the 2014 open-world ‘Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor’. That said, following the likes of LOTR Gollum and the middling Return to Moria, a big-budget ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ styled 3rd-person Lord of the Rings game is reportedly in the works.

Borderlands FOV

Borderlands 4 may very well be the best entry in the much-loved looter-shooter franchise. Unfortunately, the game stumbled out of the gate somewhat with a plethora of optimisation issues, performance woes, bugs and a lack of options on console. Though there is still work to be done, Gearbox have now released their first big post-launch patch, introducing stability and performance improvements, refinements, and an FOV slider on console.

KitGuru Games: The evolution of Borderlands

Borderlands 4 Movement

The Borderlands series pretty much invented the looter-shooter genre when the first entry in the now ubiquitous franchise launched all the way back in 2009. Two console generations and over 15 years later, Borderlands 4 is finally upon us, bringing with it more freedom, replayability – and of course – loot than ever before. That said, in amongst all of the sequel’s many changes and improvements, by far the most impactful is its overhaul to movement.

KitGuru Games: Has GeForce Now Ultimate perfected cloud gaming?

I first started using GeForce Now back when it first became available for Nvidia Shield tablets over a decade ago. Back then, we were limited to 30FPS gameplay, with choppy controls and low resolutions. Since then, the service has come a very long way, offering RTX powered servers to bring features like ray-tracing and DLSS directly to you, no matter what device you are using. I've had early access to the new RTX 5080-powered servers for about a week now, so let's jump back in and see if cloud gaming has reached a point where it could comfortably replace a traditional gaming PC.

Dodgy tech retailer closes down after scamming RTX 5090 buyers for months

Earlier this year, we heard from a number of readers who had issues obtaining their paid-for product after pre-ordering RTX 5090 graphics cards from uwgamespecialist.nl, a tech retailer in the Netherlands. Following our initial report, the CEO of uwgamespecialist claimed that an internal investigation would be launched but by July of this year, we learned that the company was in fact still scamming customers. Now another couple of months later, the company appears to have shut down.

KitGuru Games: PlayStation Stars – The Epitome of Missed Potential

PlayStation Stars

Looking back over its few years of service, PlayStation Stars neither grew nor evolved – and as such will die out being just another failed half-baked idea. While there were few who even knew the service existed, and fewer still who enjoyed it, I will be sad to see PlayStation Stars go away; not because of what it was, but due to what it could have been.
