Plasma Bigscreen turns your Raspberry Pi into a Smart TV

We've been hearing a lot of news about Single Board Computers in the last few weeks. Recently NymphCast came out with free software that turns your Raspberry Pi into a streaming device. Now the Plasma Bigscreen project can help you turn your Raspberry Pi 4 into a Smart TV.

Plasma Bigscreen is a good option for those who like watching TV and enjoy using their Raspberry Pi 4 for new projects. The free software uses KDE neon as a base and in contrast to the NymphCast project – that support a range of single board computers – the Plasma Bigscreen project is mainly aiming to support Raspberry Pi 4. It's unclear if this will change with later versions of the software.

For an overview on the project, see the announcement video here:

The Smart TV project offers voice control support – based on Mycroft AI – as well as support for remote control use. The creators make it clear on their website that users can install the Plasma Bigscreen software without having to worry about “censoring of content, selling of personal data or intrusion of privacy.”

Those who are interested in the project and are considering to use it can read more about Plasma Bigscreen on their website HERE.
