AMD plans to expand FSR 4 to APUs, gaming laptops, and handheld devices before the end of 2026. AMD reportedly confirmed the rollout plans at a press meeting in Seoul, with APUs emerging as a point of emphasis for the FSR 4 upgrade.
According to The Elec (via VideoCardz), AMD is approaching the expansion by bringing support to existing APUs alongside introducing new APU silicon. This lighter FSR 4 model targets lower-power hardware environments, focusing on image stability and low latency.
The report also indicates that new APU products featuring native FSR 4 support could arrive as early as this year, expanding AI upscaling across architectures such as RDNA 3.5 used in Strix Point and Strix Halo chips.
Currently, AMD provides ML-based FSR Upscaling 4.1 exclusively on Radeon RX 9000 and RX 7000 discrete graphics cards, while older architectures get FSR 3. Official ML-based FSR support for Radeon RX 6000 discrete GPUs remains scheduled for 2027.
KitGuru says: A lightweight FSR 4 model tailored for APUs should give handhelds and thin laptops a welcome boost.
