XFX HD6950 DD, HD6870 DD and HD6790 DD Review

The tests were performed in a controlled air conditioned room with temperatures maintained at a constant 25c – a comfortable environment for the majority of people reading this.

Idle temperatures were measured after sitting at the desktop for 30 minutes. Load measurements were acquired by playing Crysis Warhead for 30 minutes and measuring the peak temperature. We also have included Furmark results, recording maximum temperatures throughout a 30 minute stress test. All fan settings were left on automatic.

The settings above are the ‘out of the box' results and you might be wondering why the HD6950 is running cooler than the HD6870. If you look at the image above (far right), this is the throttling system in place to constantly adjust the clock speeds to maintain temperatures when using Furmark. This can be disabled and the results are basically identical to the HD6870 ‘DD'.

The cooler used on these cards is very high grade as the results show. We have a fondness for the HD6790 DD which is the quietest and coolest running of the three (not a surprise we know).
