Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z Motherboard review (mATX)

The Maximus IV Gene-Z is an attractively designed mATX motherboard based around a simple black and red colour scheme.

The board has several heatsinks connected by a heatpipe to help with VRM cooling.

CPU power is supplied via the 4+4 header, right next to the heatpipe. Half of this is covered by default, but the cover can be removed to connect an 8 pin power connector , this will increase stability to aid overclocking and power delivery.

The motherboard has six SATA ports. The grey ports on the left are SATA 3Gbps and the two red ports are SATA 6 Gbps capable. There is a USB 3.0 header connector next to the SATA connectors. There is also a HDD activity light just behind these ports.
