Though an uncommon practice, we have started to see an increasing number of indie developers give away their previous game in anticipation of a follow-up. Such is the case with Digital Sun’s excellent dungeon-crawling rogue-lite Moonlighter – with the team currently giving the game away for free on Steam for a limited time.
Taking to their Steam page to make the announcement, the team at Digital Sun officially confirmed that Moonlighter 2 (which is currently in Early Access) will be hitting version 1.0 on the 2nd of September.
In celebration of this milestone, the team have decided to give away the first game for free, writing: “if you don’t own the original Moonlighter yet (or have friends who haven't played it), you can grab it on Steam completely for free until August 9th! Keep it forever and experience Will’s original adventure!”
For the uninitiated, Moonlighter sees you playing as a shopkeeper who must venture down into the dungeons in order to collect resources which can then be sold at your shop. Released back in 2018, the game was celebrated for its blend of combat, exploration and management – making for a rather unique experience.
If you have yet to play Moonlighter, now is as good a time as any. You have until the 9th of August at 6PM (UK Time) to pick it up; at which point it will go back up to its regular RRP of £15.49.
