MSI Claw BIOS update improves gaming performance by up to 30%

Over the past few months, MSI has been hard at work improving its new handheld gaming system, the MSI Claw. Earlier in the year, a major BIOS update saw the device take a significant leap in gaming performance. Now, MSI is back again, boasting another 30 percent performance uplift with its latest BIOS.

MSI has claimed significant performance enhancements with the previous graphics drivers for the integrated Xe-LPG Arc Graphics. Now, the company has announced a potential “up to 30%” performance boost solely from the BIOS update (109).

The updated BIOS, E1T41IMS.109 (referred to as 109), in conjunction with the latest MSI Center M 1.0.2405.1401 (referred to as 2405.1401) update, is expected to deliver a substantial performance uplift in games such as Forza Horizon 5, Sons of the Forest, Fortnite, Helldrivers 2, and others. MSI compares the performance of its Claw handheld to the ROG Ally, claiming up to 26% higher performance on average, but it is unclear if MSI is comparing the Ryzen Z1 model, or the Z1 Extreme version of the ROG Ally.

Claw owners may get the most recent BIOS via the Live Update option in MSI Centre M or via the official MSI website. Also, beginning with BIOS 109, customers may upgrade their BIOS via the Live Update function in MSI Centre M. Moreover, to get the most out of Claw, MSI recommends that users play at FullHD with Low settings and XeSS enabled in Performance mode, when possible. Additionally, users should disable any FPS limitation and V-Sync and enable Over Boost and Extreme Performance settings.
