False report doing the rounds claims CD Projekt Red has ‘confirmed’ The Witcher 4

Over the last couple of days there has been a rumour going around claiming that CD Projekt Red has ‘confirmed plans' for another game in the Witcher series. These reports appear legitimate at first, citing a real Polish TV interview as a source. Unfortunately, none of these reports seem to note that the interview in question is from 2015 and doesn't refer to The Witcher 4 once.

Back in 2015, CD Projekt Red CEO, Adam Kicinski went onto a Polish TV show and talked a bit about the initial success of The Witcher 3. At the time, he also spoke a little bit about CD Projekt's plans for expansions, which turned out to be Hearts of Stone/Blood and Wine.

At no point did Kicinski claim that a fourth Witcher game was in development, as these reports are claiming. However, he did go on to talk a little about how experience gathered from working on The Witcher 3 will go on to benefit the studio's next game, Cyberpunk 2077.

So to sum up, if you see a website claiming that The Witcher 4 was confirmed this week, do keep in mind that these reports are intentionally misleading as the comments made during the interview were in regards to Witcher 3 expansions and not an entirely new game.

KitGuru Says: I must admit, I got pretty excited when I first saw the Witcher 4 making headlines. Unfortunately, some quick digging reveals the story to be very misleading and false. Hopefully there will be another Witcher game some day but it is far from being confirmed.
