Hearthstone now available on iPad worldwide

Hearthstone has finished its soft-launch and is now available on the iPad worldwide. Blizzard's free to play card game currently has over 10 million registered players, a number that is likely to grow now that it is available on more platforms.

Hearthstone spent quite a long time in closed beta and finally became open at the start of this year, a month or so later Blizzard officially brought the game out of beta and opened the flood gates to all the people who had been waiting to play. At PAX East last week, the first card expansion for the game was announced under the title: Curse of Naxxramas. The expansion will bring a further 30 cards to the game.

Downloading the game on the iPad will score you a free card pack, the game is also cross-platform meaning you can challenge your friends or play against anyone using a different device. Your progress and card collection will also carry across multiple devices, which is a nice touch.

The game is a good fit for tablets, having the game available on my iPad has certainly got me playing regularly again although, it does run a bit slow on the iPad 2. That said, I haven't experienced any crashes yet so if you can deal with the slightly longer loading times, then you should be fine.

KitGuru Says: Hearthstone is a great example of free to play done right, I haven't ever felt like I had to buy a card pack or an arena entry. I've also had plenty of wins to balance out my losses so I've never felt like the game has been unfair. Hearthstone is a good fit for tablets and hopefully app creators will look towards Hearthstone as a good example of how to create a balanced  and fair free to play title.
