Rocket League’s massive Unreal Engine 6 update teased

Epic Games has confirmed that Rocket League’s Unreal Engine 6 update will arrive in 2027, lining up with the company’s previously announced plan to begin UE6’s early access period in late 2027.

Epic first revealed Unreal Engine 6 back in May in Epic Games announces Unreal Engine 6, announcing Rocket League as the debut title for the new engine. A few weeks later, the studio outlined the full development timeline, confirming that UE6’s early access period will begin in late 2027, with a full release arriving 12–18 months afterwards.

During the final day of the Rocket League Championship Series World Championship, Epic released a new video showing professional players testing the UE6 version of the game. Several pros appear throughout the footage, offering brief glimpses of Rocket League running on the new engine and discussing how the next era of the esport is being shaped.

According to the trailer, these players are helping to rebuild Rocket League “from the ground up”, providing feedback on physics, movement and competitive feel. Epic says more players will be invited to test the UE6 version in the coming months as development continues.

With Unreal Engine 6’s early access window set for late 2027, Rocket League’s transition aligns directly with Epic’s previously announced engine roadmap. The full UE6 release is still some distance away, but Rocket League will be the first major title to showcase the new technology.

KitGuru says: Rocket League came out before Unreal Engine 4 reached full release, so the jump to UE6 will be enormous. Are you interested in seeing how the game evolves with a full engine rebuild?
