Square Enix delays Forspoken to 2023

While Forspoken was initially planned for a May 2022 launch, rough gameplay previews led to a lengthy delay, pushing the game back to late 2022. Now, Square Enix has given the developers a bit more time, pushing the game back once again into early 2023.

In an update posted this afternoon, Luminous Productions and Square Enix confirmed that Forspoken is now targeting a January 24th 2023 release date, pushing it back from the October/November release it was previously aiming for. While the game has been delayed, the developers have made good progress, stating that “all game elements are now complete”, so the next six months will be dedicated to polishing and bug fixing.

Forspoken is being developed by Luminous Productions, a studio formed by previous Final Fantasy XV developers. The game has already attracted a lot of attention for being one of the first Square Enix titles announced for PS5, but concerns around the game began growing after rough looking gameplay previews with a very low frame rate.

With the extra time, the next time we see Forspoken, the game should be in much better shape. Forspoken will be releasing on PS5 and PC on the 24th of January 2023.

KitGuru Says: Forspoken is a new IP, so it has to make a good first impression. With that in mind, giving the developers extra time is a smart move.
