Starfield leak reveals PC performance

Starfield isn't out yet and we're still a few days away from the game's early access release date. However, reviewers have had the game for weeks and we have seen a number of leaks. In the latest, a comprehensive set of Starfield details were published, alongside gameplay clips and the first PC performance information. 

In this article, we'll be focusing on the PC performance aspect. Starfield has one of Bethesda's longest graphics settings menus to date, offering many toggles and sliders for users to find the right balance between graphics and performance. The usual texture and shadow settings are there, alongside quality settings for things like dynamic resolution, indirect lighting, motion blur, GTAO, foliage crowd density and more.

According to the leak, one early PC player was managing around 45FPS to 60FPS at 1440p with high graphics settings on a Ryzen 7 3800X and RTX 2080 Ti. However, while in space, or in ‘dungeons', the frame rate rises to above 60FPS and into 70FPS territory.

We of course can't verify any of this and do not have early access to the game. However, Starfield does unlock for Premium Edition buyers this Friday, so we'll be able to test it out for ourselves soon.

The leak shared over on Reddit also includes combat gameplay clips and other details about the game, including confirmation that the game's open-world 'tiles' are not connected. Starfield's planets aren't fully open, but rather, you get a set of landing spots per planet and then a large open space to explore on the surface. I've heard that it can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 45 minutes to walk from one end to another, so while you may hit an edge of the map border at some point, it shouldn't be an issue we run into regularly.
