DICE has recently been winding down on-going development for Star Wars Battlefront II and Battlefield V, with those teams moving on to new projects. One such project will indeed be the next Battlefield, which should release next year.
EA previously said that a new Battlefield would be coming in the 2021-2022 fiscal year. However, with DICE publicly shifting resources around for its next release, EA decided that now was the time to be a bit more upfront about it.
In a statement sent to IGN, an EA representative said: “the studio [DICE] is focused on the future of Battlefield that we’ll be bringing to players in 2021”. It is a short statement but tells us all we need to know about what DICE is up to.
This will be the first Battlefield game coming to next-generation consoles, so we can expect plenty of visual upgrades. Perhaps we will finally see the long-rumoured return of Battlefield: Bad Company.
KitGuru Says: EA doesn’t appear to have a big holiday 2020 release lined up, but things are falling in place for next year.
