Todd Howard admits “very little” not screwed up during Fallout 76 launch

A lot of interesting quotes came out of the Xbox/Bethesda roundtable conversation this week. While we’ve already covered the biggest news, such as Bethesda titles being on Game Pass, FPS Boost support and future game exclusivity, we’ve yet to touch on some of Todd Howard’s comments during the stream, which included some insights and regrets around Fallout 76’s launch. 

Speaking during the round table, Howard admitted that there was “very little” that the team didn’t screw up when it came to the Fallout 76 launch. As we already know, the game’s launch was rife with bugs and technical issues, as well as a lack of the type of content that Fallout players traditionally expect.

Looking back on the launch, Howard notes that the game’s early months would have been more successful if the game had shipped on Game Pass, which would have greatly expanded the number of players willing to give the game a shot. In addition, the team also notes that it should have handled beta tests differently, having a free and open beta rather than limiting it to pre-order customers.

At this point though, Fallout 76 has come a long way. The developers finally brought interactable NPC characters into the game, a new faction system and single-player style quest lines, the latest of which involves The Brotherhood of Steel.
