Tomb Raider: Catalyst quietly delayed to 2028

Amazon Games has quietly delayed Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next new game in the series following on from the remake, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. The game had previously been announced for a 2027 release, but Amazon has now confirmed that the title will arrive in 2028 instead.

With Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis being a remake of the original Tomb Raider game, many fans had been looking forward to Catalyst, as it will be a genuinely new game, rather than re-treading old ground. Initially, the plan seemed to be to release the remake in February 2027, followed by Catalyst in late 2027, likely around the holiday season. However, in a new interview, Amazon confirmed it was now targeting 2028.

In an interview with The Game Business, Amazon Games boss, Jeffrey Gattis, outlined the company’s current slate of AAA projects, saying: “We have announced the two Tomb Raider titles. [Legacy of] Atlantis comes February 12th next year, and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one.” While not framed as a delay, this marks a quiet shift from the previously announced 2027 release window for Tomb Raider: Catalyst.

While a tad disappointing, it is likely a smart move for Amazon to spread its two biggest AAA games out a bit. Having both drop in the same calendar year could be a bit much, and lead to a longer wait for new content. Over the past year, Amazon has massively scaled back its game development and publishing operations, but Tomb Raider remains as their crowning jewel. While published by Amazon, the new Tomb Raider games will still see release on traditional console platforms and PC, with no plans to follow in Google Stadia's footsteps by making cloud-only titles.
