Ever since the resurgence of films and TV shows based on video games began around 5 years ago or so, we’ve seen countless different projects get unveiled, released, and cancelled. Unfortunately, Sony’s upcoming Street Fighter film has now had its previously-announced release date removed from calendars.
As reported by Deadline, the Sony Pictures-distributed and Legendary-developed Street Fighter film has had its previously-announced release date of the ‘20th of March 2026’ removed from calendars with no current replacement date.
Fortunately, it seems as though this is likely to be a mere bump in the road, with the reason for its release date removal being due to Sony’s global distribution deal with Legendary having ended on the 31st of December last year.
That said, it’s entirely possible that this could have greater and more far-reaching ramifications if the project struggles to find a new distributor.
We will have to wait and see, but regardless, there will always be the old classic Street Fighter films to watch and enjoy.
