Sometime last month, we at KitGuru posted up some very enticing images of an iPhone 5 mockup that looked like it would be used by case manufacturers. However, these images were later taken down by us (we're certain you can find them elsewhere) but they still revealed one interesting clue – the strong possibility of a widescreen display.
To date Apple's iPhones have been equipped with 480×320 resolutions and since the iPhone 4 have been shipping with 960×640 resolution displays. The iPhone 5, or whatever Apple decides to call the 4S' sucessor, will likely have a resolution of 1136 by 640. Previous leaks have hinted at a 4 inch display so this would result in a pixel density of 326 PPI, which is impressive however you try and spin it.
This comes about as 9to5Mac says that the resolution of 1136 x 640 scales to five rows of applications in iOS 6, compared to just four in iOS 5.1 and earlier with the same resolution.
KitGuru says: Does this confirm a display with a 640 x 1136 resolution on the next iPhone? We'd be pretty confident to say it does.
I’m sorry but where did those numbers come from because it sounds like you pulled them out of your butt! If you said a resolution 1280 x 720 I could understand but adding 176 onto the existing resolution I cannot! It’s not even tall enough for another icon
