Dell unveils the world’s first laptop with 480Hz display

Dell is expanding its Alienware line-up this summer with two impressive new laptops. The new Alienware m17 R5 and x17 R2 will be the first laptops in the world to feature a blazing-fast 480Hz display.

The Alienware m17 R5 and x17 R2 are the first laptops featuring a 480Hz FullHD display, although potential buyers can opt for other display configurations. For instance, the option of a 4K/120Hz display is also offered. In any case, all the display options feature AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync, as well as technologies like ComfortView Plus and Dolby Vision. Under the hood, these new Alienware laptops feature up to a Ryzen 9 6900HX CPU and a Radeon RX 6850M XT or an Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti laptop GPU – although it is worth noting the x17 R2 only has Nvidia GPU options.

Aside from the Alienware laptops, Dell has also announced the new G16 – a new gaming laptop offering similar power to an Alienware machine, but at a lower price point. The Dell G16 will offer up to a Core i7-12700H and up to an RTX 3070 Ti. The 16-inch display has a 2560×1600 resolution (16:10) and a 165Hz refresh rate, offering 11% more screen area than the Dell G15 display.

Despite not carrying the Alienware name, the G16 will have some Alienware features, including the Alienware Command Centre software, the same Cherry MX low-profile mechanical keyboard, and a similar cooling solution.

Both Alienware laptops are now available for purchase. The Dell G16 will become available on July 21st for $1,399.
