Razer’s Android-powered handheld gaming device leaks

As mobile chipsets get more and more powerful, and bigger – more expansive – games come to mobile phones, there has started to become a need for a gaming handheld to represent the Android community. In response, Razer is collaborating with Qualcomm to create just that.

Videocardz.com managed to get their hands on a number of powerpoint slides showing off SoC manufacturer Qualcomm’s next generation products. Alongside the already announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Qualcomm is reportedly working on a gaming-focused G3x.

To show off this chipset, Qualcomm has partnered with Razer to create a Developer Kit handheld device. This specific device will come with a 120hz OLED screen, 6000 mAh battery, 5G support, haptic feedback, and even both a front and back camera.

This device will reportedly be advertised as a streaming device, taking advantage of services such as Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Remote Play and Steam Link. That being said, as it runs Android, the handheld will not only be able to play titles from the Android Play Store but will also be able to emulate many older consoles – perhaps even GameCube and PS2 titles!

As is evident from the name of course, it seems this device will not be positioned as a mainstream handheld. Even so, it being a blueprint for future devices is exciting. Mobile phones are incredibly powerful, and so hopefully this helps to incentivise game developers to push for grander scopes.
