Phil Spencer addresses Halo TV show’s failings

While Microsoft has seen massive success with the release of the Fallout TV show, the console maker’s other efforts in bringing its IPs to TV has not fared as well. In the wake of the cancellation of Paramount’s Halo TV show last year, Xbox head Phil Spencer claims to have “learned from doing Halo.”

In an interview discussing the upcoming ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Phil Spencer spoke to Variety on Xbox’s past history with video game adaptations, saying:

“We’re learning and growing through this process, which is giving us more confidence that we should do more.”

Spencer continued, “We learned from doing ‘Halo.’ We learned from doing ‘Fallout.’ So all of these build on themselves. And obviously we’ll have a couple that miss. But what I’d say to the Xbox community that likes this work is: You’re going to see more, because we’re gaining confidence and we’re learning through this.”

Unfortunately, as expected, Spencer did not state exactly what these lessons were, just that Xbox has ‘learned’ from its past. We will simply have to wait and see what becomes of the Minecraft film when it arrives in a couple weeks’ time.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
