Samsung launches world’s first 500Hz OLED gaming monitor

Just a week ahead of Computex, Samsung is making headlines with its new Samsung Odyssey gaming monitor. The Odyssey OLED G6 boasts an incredibly fast 500Hz refresh rate, making it the world's first OLED monitor to achieve this spec.

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 is coming to Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia first, but Samsung states that the monitor will have a phased global rollout later in the year. Pricing will be over $1200 USD, although exact pricing in the US, Europe and UK has yet to be confirmed.

Speaking on the launch, Hoon Chung, VP of Visual Display at Samsung, said: “With the Odyssey OLED G6, the world’s first 500Hz OLED gaming monitor, we are pushing gaming performance, visual quality and immersion to entirely new heights — delivering the next evolution of display technology for gamers around the world.”

The Odyssey OLED G6 is a 27-inch monitor with a QD-OLED panel with 0.03ms GTG response time and 2560×1440 resolution. The monitor is also G-Sync Compatible and supports FreeSync Premium Pro. For HDR, the monitor has a peak brightness of 1000 nits, making it ideal for HDR content. Nowadays, most AAA games sport HDR, even on PC, although there are occasional outliers.
