The Outer Worlds 2 gameplay trailer reveals 2025 release date

Obsidian Entertainment is quickly proving itself to be one of Xbox's most productive studios. Since the acquisition, Obsidian has already released Grounded and Avowed is releasing very soon. On top of that, Obsidian has been hard at work on the sequel to its Sci-Fi RPG, The Outer Worlds. Last night during The Game Awards, Obsidian revealed that The Outer Worlds 2 will release in 2025.

Next year is set to be a busy one for Obsidian. We have their new Fantasy RPG, Avowed, releasing in February. Later in the year, the studio will follow that up with the release of The Outer Worlds 2.

The previous announcement trailer for the game stated that the game will release “when it's ready”. That time has now come, with the game set to release sometime in 2025. With that said, it is worth noting that Avowed was delayed to 2025 just two months before its planned 2024 launch. With lots of other games also planned for 2025, I would not be surprised to see The Outer Worlds 2 slip into 2026, especially if it ends up getting a release date in the same timeframe as Grand Theft Auto 6.

While The Outer Worlds was originally a multiplatform title, its release date came prior to Obsidian joining Xbox Game Studios. As a result, we expect that The Outer Worlds 2 will only launch on Xbox and PC, with a potential release on other consoles later down the line.

KitGuru Says: I loved The Outer Worlds but the game also has plenty of detractors who felt that Obsidian should have made a bigger game. From what I've heard, The Outer Worlds 2 will be a similar scope to the first game, so expect a 20-30 hour RPG, rather than a game that will consume months of your time.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
