Destiny 3 reportedly shelved following Bungie lay-offs

After much anticipation, the long-awaited conclusion to Destiny‘s Light and Darkness saga arrived in the form of The Final Shape. With this chapter of the story ended, it seemed as though Bungie were gearing up for a Destiny 3. Unfortunately, in the wake of recent mass lay-offs, the project has reportedly been shelved.

According to known industry insider Jeff Grubb, via the Game Mess Mornings Podcast, the most recent lay-offs at Bungie which saw more than 200 employees let go has had a knock-on effect on the studio’s ambitions.

As stated by Grubb, “What is going on the shelf is Payback. This is what was also leaked and reported to be maybe Destiny 3 – technically not Destiny 3. Internally, they would refer to it as ‘the next Destiny’. I don’t know if the distinction is there, but they think there’s a distinction there.”

He continued, “But that is going on the shelf indefinitely, according to the people I’ve talked to. Either way, let’s be clear, a ‘Destiny 3’ or ‘next Destiny’ is just not the thing that they are going to be coming out of this looking toward let alone working on in any real way.”

With Destiny 2 now over 7 years old, the desire for a brand new entry has been beginning to boil up. Unfortunately, it seems this won’t be happening any time soon.

Insider claims Call of Duty could see a massive shake-up including no more annual releases

For pretty much its entire existence, Call of Duty has operated using a familiar model, with the FPS franchise seeing a brand new title released on an annual basis from one of the 3 core COD studios. While this has worked in the past, Black Ops 7 seems to have been a breaking point for some. According to known insiders, Microsoft is now considering a major shake-up, including a standalone Zombies game.
