Mobile hardware is more powerful than ever, allowing developers to create and release competent and comparable mobile ports of some of the industry’s biggest titles. It seems Bungie is planning to enter the mobile space, as the studio is reportedly working on a Destiny mobile game in collaboration with NetEase.
Last year we learned that a Destiny game was in the works for mobile due to a number of job listings posted by Bungie. Now, thanks to another job listing, we know a few more details including the fact that mobile-focused company NetEase will be assisting with development.
Furthermore, according to TheGamingPost and sources familiar with the matter, the game has been in the works for more than two years.
Additionally, it seems this game will be the first of many for Bungie, as the studio is reportedly planning on building its own internal mobile game engine in order to “reach players on iOS and Android mobile platforms.”
As time goes on and mobile hardware continues to improve, we are likely to see more and more mobile ports of popular titles developed. While currently there is a need for collaborations and separate engines in order to adapt these games for the mobile hardware, hopefully with time we will witness a streamlining of the process, eventually leading to total parity. We will have to wait and see.
