Trademark hints at impending NSO GameCube announcement

Ever since Nintendo announced its NSO (Nintendo Switch Online) service, many fans have been hoping that we would see the console manufacturer offer classic GameCube titles as part of the subscription. So far, this has yet to come to fruition – though a new trademark hints at the fact that an announcement could be imminent.

As discovered by Twitter user ‘Jo Reggelt’, Nintendo recently filed 3 trademarks in the UK which appear to be related to the company’s iconic GameCube controller. Considering the fact that the company has re-released their old gamepads in alignment with the NSO service’s library updates, this latest filing seems to suggest that GameCube emulation through Nintendo Switch Online could be coming soon.

One thing worth noting is that the Switch’s long-rumoured successor is likely to be announced and released sometime this year. Could GameCube emulation be limited to this next generation Nintendo console? The Switch can definitely run GameCube titles through emulation, and so we will have to wait and see.
