Epic Games announces Unreal Engine 6

It looks like the era of Unreal Engine 5 is coming to an end. Epic Games has announced plans for Unreal Engine 6, with Rocket League set to be the first game to make use of the new technology.

The announcement of Unreal Engine 6 comes just a year or so after the birth of Unreal Engine 5.6, which introduced some much-needed optimisations to reduce stutter and other issues in massive open world games. CD Projekt Red is credited with having helped create these new optimisation features as part of its effort to develop The Witcher 4.

According to Epic, Unreal Engine 6 will power “the next era of Rocket League”, although we expect that other titles like Fortnite will also get the upgrade to UE6 pretty early on in its life cycle.

Epic has not yet shared further details about Unreal Engine 6, but the new version should include all of the optimisations brought into UE5 late in its life cycle. This would offer a fresh start, as gamers have begun to criticise UE5-based games for their performance flaws.

KitGuru Says: Rocket League was built on Unreal Engine 3, so this would mark a major overhaul for the game. There is still no word on when Unreal Engine 6 will be made widely available on the market, so it could be years before we see AAA games from third-party studios utilising the technology.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
