Nvidia reportedly developing GPU architecture for MediaTek flagship mobile SoC

AMD and Nvidia may soon compete against each other in a new market segment. Recently, AMD collaborated with Samsung to bring RDNA GPU technology to Samsung's mobile SoCs. Now, it is being reported that Nvidia is developing a mobile GPU architecture for future Mediatek SoCs.

According to Digitimes (via VideoCardz), MediaTek is working on a new flagship mobile processor expected to offer enhanced support for artificial intelligence and gaming, leveraging Nvidia's extensive technological expertise. Notably, the GPU architecture will target not only mobile phones but also Windows laptops using the Windows on Arm architecture.

While Nvidia is renowned for its high-performance GPUs, it's no stranger to low-power GPU architectures. It has previously developed Tegra SoCs for its Shield products and gaming consoles like the Nintendo Switch. Furthermore, there are expectations that Nvidia will deliver an updated Tegra SoC for the successor to the Switch, indicating the possibility of similar GPU architectures between the Switch and MediaTek SoC.

Industry sources suggest that MediaTek could integrate an Nvidia GPU into its upcoming flagship mobile chip in 2024.

KitGuru says: As AMD continues to strengthen its presence in the mobile market through renewed collaborations with Samsung, a partnership between Nvidia and MediaTek signifies a new frontier for competition in the mobile device space.
