The Dolphin Emulator is no longer coming to Steam

While the folks behind the Dolphin Emulator planned to bring their tool to Steam earlier this year, in May, Valve opted to block Dolphin from joining the Steam Store after conversations with Nintendo. At the time, the developers said they were reviewing their options and well, it turns out there are none.

In a blog post this week, the Dolphin team confirmed that it has abandoned its efforts to bring the emulator to Steam. When Dolphin first appeared on the Steam Store, Valve had actually contacted Nintendo to see if this would cause legal issues. Ultimately, Valve opted to block Dolphin from joining Steam, telling the developers that they would have to come to an agreement with Nintendo themselves.

Naturally, there is no way Nintendo would ever agree to allow a popular Nintendo Console emulator to be made available freely on PC's biggest games platform (Steam) and as such, efforts to bring Dolphin to Steam have now been abandoned.

The Dolphin Emulator has been popular for many years, offering easy ways to play old GameCube and Wii titles. Other emulators, like YuZu and Cemu target more recent Nintendo consoles, like the Switch and Wii U.

KitGuru Says: There are other emulators available on Steam but with Dolphin being one of the biggest names, it would have caught a lot of traction on Steam.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
