Valve is importing a lot of ‘game consoles’ this month, indicating Steam Machine launch

Last night, the Steam Controller officially hit the Steam store and immediately sold out. Scalpers are already trying to sell the gamepad for far above its market value, but a new wave of stock could be landing soon, as import records indicate that Valve is preparing to launch the Steam Machine or Steam Frame very soon.

According to import records seen by The Verge, since the start of May, Valve has imported nearly 50 tonnes of ‘Game Console' product into the US. This would indicate that the Steam Machine (or potentially the Steam Frame) will be launching soon, as Valve is actively readying stock.

Valve originally planned to launch the Steam Machine, Steam Frame and the new Steam Controller by March 2026, but due to volatility in the memory market driven by unprecedented demand from AI data centres, all three products were delayed. The Steam Controller eventually launched on its own as a standalone product this week but instantly sold out, indicating either extraordinary demand or low volume. Valve may have opted to reserve some Steam Controller supply to drop around the same time as its other devices.

Valve has two major pieces of hardware coming this year. The Steam Machine is a console-sized gaming PC, aimed at bringing the Steam Deck experience to the living room, with much more capable hardware for driving games at higher resolutions. The Steam Frame is a standalone VR headset, intended to allow gamers to play their PC VR games wirelessly, or enjoy their non-VR games on a cinema-sized screen within VR. The Steam Controller is designed to work well with both, while also being suitable for Steam Deck and traditional PCs.
