CES 2023: Lexar unveils new DDR5 memory and portable storage devices

At CES 2023 this week we checked in with Lexar to take a look at their new and upcoming storage and memory devices. For starters, there is new Ares RGB DDR5 memory on the way for new gaming PCs, but beyond that, there have also been a number of new portable storage drives announced for gamers. 

The Ares series is Lexar's high-performance RAM for PCs. The new DDR5 RGB models continue to use Lexar RGB Sync so you can sync up your lighting with other components, and you get the other benefits of DDR5 too, including on-die ECC for improved stability and reliability, as well as built-in power management for higher efficiency. Importantly, these kits were designed with both Intel XMP 3.0 and AMD EXPO in mind, so they should run great across both platforms. There is also the Ares DDR5 OC Memory series, which scraps RGB for those who are purely performance-focused.

The SL660 Blaze Portable Gaming SSD offers up to 2000MB/s read speeds and up to 1900MB/s write speeds using a USB 3.2 interface. Due to the high speeds, you'll be able to install games to this portable SSD and take them on the go with you without suffering performance loss, it even comes with a handy little stand so you can set it up on your desk.

Next up is the PLAY micro SDXC card, offering 1TB of portable storage to use with portable gaming devices like the Nintendo Switch. The 1TB version happens to be Lexar's best seller, in part due to a lack of ‘gaming' oriented 1TB microSD cards from competitors. On the professional front, Lexar also has other XHCX/SDXC cards offering high speeds for high-res photography and video capture.
