The Dolphin Emulator for Wii and GameCube games is heading to Steam

Since the launch of the Steam Deck, there has been a growing interest in seeing emulators on Steam. Software like RetroArch is already available and soon, one of the most popular Nintendo emulators will be releasing on Steam. 

Dolphin, which can emulate Game Cube and Wii titles, is set to release on Steam in ‘Q2' of this year, meaning anytime between April and the end of June. This will make the emulator more easily accessible on devices like the Steam Deck.

As you might expect, the Steam Store page does not use any Nintendo material to promote the emulator, in fact, GameCube and Wii aren't named anywhere either. Instead, Dolphin Emulator is billed as “an emulator for the big N's 6th and 7th generation consoles, featuring enhancements such as increased resolution, save states, and netplay”.

Referring to ‘the big N' might by dancing a little too close to the line, but elsewhere in the description it is noted that Dolphin itself “does not provide any of the games” and should be used as “a tool to run legally obtained copies” of games.
