Intel to reportedly discontinue Z690 and B660 chipsets

When Intel releases a new generation of motherboards, the company doesn't discontinue the previous generation immediately. Usually, the previous generation lasts for a few years. However, according to a recent rumour, things might be different with the 600-series motherboards.

Intel hasn't issued any official update regarding the state of support for the Z690 and B660 chipsets. However, according to MyDrivers (via VideoCardz), the company has already informed partners that it will soon discontinue both chipsets. The Z690 and B660 boards series debuted in October 2021 and January 2022, respectively. So, if proven accurate, Intel will stop producing both products after just over a year of being available.

With Intel yet to confirm the news, we can only guess why this may happen. It could be due to the fact that the upcoming Z790 and B760 chipsets offer similar capabilities. Having two highly similar products at similar prices doesn't make much sense.

As for the H610 chipset, it seems Intel still hasn't planned to drop it yet. With no successor in sight, motherboard manufacturers will keep manufacturing motherboards using the entry-level chipset for now.
