Sources claim PS5 Pro is in development for 2024 launch

It has been reported that we'll see a new version of the PS5 console with a detachable disc drive later this year, but it seems something even bigger could be just around the corner. While the rumoured PS5 redesign won't include any hardware upgrades, it has now been claimed that a PS5 Pro is on the way in 2024.

According to sources speaking with Insider Gaming, the PS5 Pro console is in development and is being tentatively planned for a late 2024 release. Recent patent filings by PlayStation engineer, Mark Cerny, seem to suggest that the company could be looking to provide a substantial boost to ray-tracing performance as part of the PS5 Pro offering.

There are no further details at this time, but much like the PS4 Pro, we can expect a spec upgrade and higher performance compared to the base console.

If Sony is planning a PS5 Pro then we may well see a more powerful Xbox this generation too.

KitGuru Says: Given that the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X only had a few years on the market before new-gen consoles arrived, this would point to a 2027-2028 launch for Sony's next-generation console.

With rumours claiming that Sony has reversed-course on bringing more single-player titles to PC, PlayStation’s CEO has now officially commented on the matter.
