The Stadia controller is no longer useless, now works via Bluetooth

When Google first introduced Stadia, one of the ways the team claimed it would alleviate latency issues related to streaming was through the technology of the Stadia controller, which connected to games using WIFI. With Stadia pretty much dead and buried, Google has finally updated the controller firmware to allow users to connect it to any device using Bluetooth.

Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Google Stadia account said “Stadians, you can now update your Stadia Controller’s firmware to enable Bluetooth Low Energy connections.”

The update tool can be found HERE, however it is worth noting that “this update will permanently disable Wi-Fi connectivity, so please wait to update your controller if you want to use it to play wirelessly on Stadia.”

Though perhaps not the most original design, Stadia owners generally agreed that the controller itself was comfortable to use and so it being updated to be usable on any Bluetooth device is welcome – though it is somewhat surprising to see the functionality was not available until now.
